Hawaii Cancer
Lecture Series is Presented by
TURNING
POINT CANCER CENTER
The Turning Point Cancer
Center
was launched as a non-profit
corporation in June 2004. The mission of the Center is to promote an
integrated approach to responding to cancer by helping people with cancer
create a map for their healing journey and do the work they need to do in
between doctor's visits. Its first major effort will be this
comprehensive, first-of-its-kind Hawaii Cancer Lecture Series. The Board
of Directors of the Turning Point Cancer Center consists of people who
have either lost a loved one to cancer or have experienced their own
cancer. There is also an active and extensive Advisory Board which has
played a critical role in the development of the Hawaii Cancer Lecture
Series. More information about the Turning Point Cancer Center can be
found on their website
www.turningpointcancercenter.com.
The Complementary and
Alternative Medicine Department of the John A. Burns School of
Medicine is
committed to conducting both basic and applied research related to
complementary and alternative therapies in Hawai‘i and the Pacific region;
educating the next generation of physicians and other healthcare personnel
about the potential risks and benefits of complementary and alternative
therapies; providing culturally competent care for people within the state
of Hawai‘i by understanding the use of patterns of complementary care used
by Hawai‘i’s population; facilitating the study of medicinal plants,
including varieties unique to Hawai‘i and/or the Pacific Rim; and
promoting health service research to assess the clinical and financial
benefits—or lack thereof—of CAAM therapies for the Hawaiian population.
The
concept for a Center for Attitudinal Healing was first developed by Dr.
Jerry Jampolski, MD in California in 1975. His
initial vision was to offer a support group for children with cancer and
to create a safe environment of support and trust where children with
serious illness could express their deepest feelings.
Jampolsky lives part
time in Kailua with his wife Diane Cirincione. It was his influence
that launched the Hawaii Center for Attitudinal Healing
which was incorporated in 2001 as a non-profit organization. The
mission if the Hawaii Center for Attitudinal Healing is to provide a
comprehensive program of peer support groups, home/hospital visiting
services and educational projects throughout the State of Hawai’i.
The Center supports individuals and families challenged by serious
illness, loss and other highly stressful situations, as well as those
interested in improving quality of life for themselves and their
community. More information on the Center can be found at
