How We Selected People in this Directory
In the process of developing this portion of the directory, we looked for professionals with experience in working with
people with cancer or with particular skills that can be
valuable to cancer patients. Where called for, such as with
massage therapy, they must have specific training for providing
their services to cancer patients. They must also have an
attitude and approach that can be supportive and uplifting.
We asked each wellness provider for references from people in
the community who had experienced their work or from other
wellness professionals. This portion
of the directory will grow as we continue to research people
with these particular qualifications. Each person was
invited to be part of the directory and most were referred to us
by other professionals. We share this screening process
with you because we respect those who are included below.
It is the case, however, that we do not guarantee anyone's
work and are not responsible for your experience with them.
Please trust your own intuition to be sure that what they offer
is right for you. |

Acupuncture
Acupuncture can be helpful for
the cancer patients in a number of ways. Based on the theory of
balanced energy, it can help patients reduce the distress and anxiety
of a cancer diagnosis by correcting the energy imbalance that comes
with stress. It has also been shown to be successful in reducing
pain. Perhaps it is most effective in dealing with nausea which
is often a side effect of chemotherapy. As with many wellness therapies, the cancer patient will
want to work with an acupuncturists who is highly trained and is aware
of their needs.

Kailua Acupuncture
Clinic
My philosophy in working with
patients with cancer is to treat the whole person. I
integrate the therapies I offer with western medical
approaches for the maximum benefit of the patient. During an
initial consultation, we discuss every aspect of the
patient’s life, from sleep patterns to appetite to emotional
states. Acupuncture is very effective in dealing with not
only physical pain and nausea, but also with anxiety and
depression. Acupuncture stimulates the body to create a
natural state of well being, a feeling of centeredness,
where decisions can be more easily made and the emotional
ups and downs made less extreme.

Kari Webb, L.Ac. My
mission is to improve the quality of life for each of my patients. In
treating cancer patients, I do not treat the cancer itself, but rather
all the side effects that come with having cancer and cancer
treatments, such as nausea, pain, fatigue, weakness, digestive
problems, and dry mouth. I also treat the emotions that come along
with it, such as anxiety, sadness, grief, and/or anger. My treatments
help to make my patients physically and mentally stronger. I am here
for the long run to support my patients in every way I possibly can.

Mindfulness
is a
preverbal mental quality that allows one to explore life as it is
occurring in the present moment, without holding on to the pleasant
experiences or resisting the unpleasant ones. By paying non-judging
attention to all that is being experienced, one develops insights
into the true nature of life and acts with clarity and wisdom rather
than reacts, encountering less confusion and stress, more joy and
inner peace. This technique is being successfully taught in many
stress reduction clinics and in the prison system worldwide.

integration of naturopathic oncology into cancer care. My

entering a new era of humane cancer care, where patients do not
needlessly suffer from the side effects of treatment, and where
long-term survival is more often the rule than the exception.
