commit to a direction."
Wendell Berry
HEAL YOUR
LIFESTYLE
Stanford University estimates that lifestyle issues such
as poor diet, lack of exercise, and unwise general health habits account
for 61% of the premature deaths due to cancer. Genetics may
account for 29% and medical services have been listed as contributing to
about 10% of premature cancer deaths. The resources we have
identified in the Cancer Wellness Directory can help you look at
lifestyle issues that may be operating as obstacles to your healing process.
WHOLE PERSON TREATMENT
While doctors aggressively treat the illness, a whole person approach
promotes the health, vitality and wellbeing of the person who is
fighting the illness. Following are assumptions of the whole
person approach:
1.
Patients play a major role in their own healing journey.
2.
The professional is a healing partner.
3.
The underlying causes, as well as the symptoms, must be treated.
4.
Healing involves mind, heart, body and spirit.
5.
Pain and illness are messages to value and act upon.
6.
Attitude and perspective are a major factor in health and healing.
7.
Body, mind and spirit form one unit and always affect each other.
8.
Wellness means prevention plus wholeness: harmony in relationships,
work, goals; a balance of body, mind and spirit.
